Switching to a gluten-, dairy-, and sugar-free diet may seem like a daunting task, especially when it comes to breakfast.
If you like to start your day with a hearty meal including some protein, veggies and sweet potatoes, it should be an easy ride for you.
However, if you’re accustomed to think breakfast should include “breakfast foods” like cereal, milk, breads and pastries, then I have the perfect breakfast recipe to share with you.
It’s sweet. It’s also filled with healthy good fats that will help stabilize your blood sugar. That means that this smoothie can keep you going for 5 hours straight without even thinking about food. Or getting hangry.
And not unimportantly, it’s very tasty. If you use the raw cacao, it tastes like (guilt-free) chocolate milk.
Here’s the slightly adapted version of the KB smoothie from Dr. Kelly Brogan. Find her original recipe here.
Ingredients:
- ½ a cup of frozen organic cherries (or other berries)
- 8oz of filtered water or coconut water
- 2-3 tablespoons of collagen hydrolysate as a protein base (I use this one)
- 1 tablespoon of (sprouted) nut butter or sunbutter
- 2-3 pastured egg yolks
- 1 tablespoon of coconut oil
- 1-2 tablespoons of ghee
- 1-2 tablespoons of raw cacao powder (optional)
Instructions: Blend!
You can play around with the quantities of each of the ingredients.
If you feel uncomfortable about eating raw egg yolks or you’re not sure if they’re from a high-quality source, you can have the eggs on the side, anyway you like them.
You can also drink this as a healthy filling snack.
Give it a try.
